Generic Web Services
Client:
A respected Fortune 500 Telecom Company
Challenge:
The Telecom Company was engaged with numerous vendors in order to purchase products by providing a web services interface with a multitude of functions. The telecom products interfaced with other vendor products (client), which consumed their web services
Often when the telecom products were delivered there was no client application to test the web services interface to determine if the products complied with the requirements. Testing and verification was problematic requiring custom development of "test clients" consuming the web services.
Solution:
Sun Technologies designed and developed a customized Generic Web Services Client. Business processes were reengineered to provide more functionality and increase efficiency and productivity.
Sun Technologies used Apache as the web server, AXIS as XML server and Tomcat as the server container. The test tool was developed using Java. The implementation generated human readable web pages from the WSDL.
The solution allowed the operators to select any of the available methods (ports), enter the message parameters, and display the response parameters or the error messages to the user. Automation of the testing (i.e. automatically sending messages in sequence, etc.) was also provided.
Technology:
Tomcat, Apache, Java and AXIS
Value:
The foremost business benefit for the Telecom Company is that Sun Technologies' product provided a vendor independent test client to verify web services compliance.
